CAIRO: Egyptian authorities are investigating whether a woman who was found drowned in the Nile River fell from a bridge while taking a selfie with her fiance.
Prosecutors in the Old Cairo district received a report claiming that a young man in his 20s and the woman had fallen from Univeristy Bridge while attempting to take a picture of themselves, according to local news reports.
Security forces at the site managed to recover the woman’s body using a river ambulance.
Authorities are still looking for the man’s body, the report added.
A preliminary medical investigation said the girl died of asphyxia caused by drowning.
The prosecution said her body would be handed over to her relatives for burial.
